Adopt a Family

December 18, 2011 - Parishioners from Holy Trinity Orthodox Church delivered gifts and gift certificates totaling over $900 to a Willimantic family in-need, in cooperation with the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry's "Adopt a Family" Program.

Prior to 2009, Holy Trinity participated with WAIM's "Hats, Scarves, and Mittens" collection. For the past three years however, Holy Trinity has joined with WAIM though its "Adopt a Family" Program which provides families in crisis an opportunity to joyfully celebrate the holidays through the love of a neighbor.

Holy Trinity was matched this year with a loving family with five children, ranging in age from 13 to 1 1/2-year old twins. The adopted family required significant medical attention in 2011, so our gift to them was deeply appreciated.

Here is additional detail on the family and how the donations were allocated:

All together we raised approximately $950 for the gifts, which includes $100 from the Church.

The Mother's name is Jeanine Z. and her husband's name Jose. 

  1. $200 gift card to Stop & Shop
  2. $300 gift card to East Brook Mall - for the kids coats
  3. $200 on Wii game system for the entire family
  4. Baby supplies, household items and a Yankee Candle for the parents

All of the children's names begin with "D"

  1. D-1, age 13 - Received fishing pole with reel, lures, fishing vest and sweatpants and sweatshirt; another shirt and outfit donated
  2. D-2, age 9 - Received wrestling book and wrestling shirt, sweatpants and sweatshirt; another shirt, outfit and Legos were donated
  3. D-3, age 8 - Received Legos, robot rover, outfit (shirt and pants); another shirt and outfit donated
  4. Twins D-4 and D-5, ages 1 1/2 - received tool workbenches for both, outfits for both; Elmo's for both, and outfits for both donated
