Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

The Holy Trinity Church School Program concluded the 2013-2014 year with a festive church picnic on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Add that it was Father’s Day, the day also brought together friends and family  from both far and near. The children played games throughout the afternoon. Even a pirate showed up to lead them in a Treasure Hunt.

Each child and teen who participated in the church school program this year were presented a certificate along with a small gift. The children received two small prayer books to assist them in establishing a life of prayer. The teens meanwhile, received crosses. The gifts were presented by Reader Steven Bradford who has worked diligently the past two years with Holy Trinity’s children, adolescents, and young adults. Steven was presented with a book on behalf of Holy Trinity as an expression of our church’s gratitude for his continual efforts. Holy Trinity has a nucleus of many young children which will be the foundation of a dynamic church school for many years to come.

After the presentation, Madegan Morrison and Patrick Dolan were presented Alpha Omega awards given to Orthodox students (ages 12-18) who complete the necessary requirements in both Girls Scout and Boy Scouts. Maya Morrison was presented with the Chi-Rho Award, given to those Orthodox students in the 6-12 year age group, who fulfill a similar set of requirements. Holy Trinity has several young adults involved in Scouting, so it is our hope to repeat this award ceremony in the years ahead as well.

Madegan and Maya who sadly will be leaving our community in July when her family relocates to Kansas City, Missouri, were also presented with a bouquet of flowers which they were touched to receive. Madegan then spoke to the community and expressed her gratitude for the relevance Scouting and the support of HTOC has meant to her the past few years.

Finally, the entire community joined in singing Happy Birthday to twins Alexander & Anna Fetzko who turn 5 years old on June 17. Alex celebrated the day by serving in the Holy Trinity altar.
