Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

Members of the Holy Trinity church community, along with several visitors from a neighboring church in Connecticut, came together to celebrate a surprise 78th birthday of our beloved Mrs Sonja Chowanec today. Sonja was born in New Jersey on September 27, 1937.

What Sonja has meant to our parish cannot possibly be overstated. She is at the center of every aspect of our church's life.

"Sonja has given selflessly to Holy Trinity for well over four decades now," host pastor, V. Rev. Marc A. Vranes, said. "She has the wonderful gift to treat and embrace every person, every child, and any person who has been in our community for a short period of time, with the same love and respect as she gives to the person who has given years to our church. It is perhaps the best gift she continues to give to each of us."

At the conclusion of Divine Liturgy, Sonja was presented a beautiful arrangement of flowers by Parish Council Vice-President and webmaster, Mr Timothy Fetzko, on behalf of a grateful Holy Trinity Church community. Her dear friend, Barbara E. Lacey, made a beautiful chocolate cake, decorated with raspberries, for Sonja. The community hosted a reception for Sonja downstairs at Coffee Hour, but as it quite often, it was Sonja who provided most of the food. An excellent cook and baker, our entire community has been treated to Sonja's cooking and baking for many years.

 Many Years, beloved Sonja.
