Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

Our church was filled with joy on Sunday, November 15, as the Holy Trinity community was honored to celebrate the 68th wedding anniversary of Mr & Mrs George (Zenia) Zlotnick of Mansfield Center, CT. They were married on this date in 1947. Zenia and George have been life-long and faithful members at Holy Trinity, and their impact on our community to this day is still quite significant. A prayer was read for George and Zenia, and they were remembered during all the particular litanies and at the Great Entrance, too. The entire Holy Trinity community joined in singing, "Many Years" to George & Zenia.

In recognition of UCONN OCF Month at Holy Trinity each November, this morning (Nov. 15, 2015) senior Sarah Luft and junior Melanie Sulich made a presentation to the our community detailing their on-campus ministry.

While on the Storrs campus, the students meet weekly for discussion and fellowship. The topics for discussion are wide-ranging, but always informative and challenging. The students also visit neighboring Orthodox Churches in Connecticut where they host Coffee Hour, and participate annually in the national OCF sponsored Day of Prayer. Several Orthodox clergy also travel to campus to hold weekday services for the students throughout the year. For the past several years as well, the students host an annual "Grill the Priest", where an Orthodox priest faces a firing line of questions from engaged college students.

It must also be noted, the students are quite involved at Holy Trinity. Several sing in the choir, along with reading the Hours and Epistle. At the recent Diocese of New England Annual Assembly at Holy Trinity, the OCF students served breakfast to all delegate and observers after Divine Liturgy on Saturday, October 24, 2015.
