Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

John Michael Fetzko, the infant son of Mr & Mrs Timothy (Katrina) Fetzko, and the sibling of twins, Alexander and Anna Rose, ages 5, was received into the Orthodox Church on Sunday, May 3, 2015, the Fourth Sunday of Pascha, through the Sacramental Christian initiation rites of Holy Baptism & Holy Chrismation.

John’s entrance into the church and union with Jesus Christ was sealed when he received the Holy Eucharist during the Divine Liturgy.

Our small church was full on this day, and the feeling of great joy permeated throughout everyone and certainly through the entire day as well. John Michael joins a growing group of small children in our church. His baptism is the 11th in the past five years which have taken place at Holy Trinity. Our community now has nine children under the age of five, all of whom are in church on a regular basis with their parents.

Mr Jason Geeza of our own Holy Trinity Church was John Michael’s Godfather, and Ms Victoria Villano, a close friend of Timothy and Katrina, who is also loved dearly by Alex and Anna Rose, was the Godmother. Ms Villano was a part of the HTOC worshipping community during the time she spent in Connecticut studying for her Master’s degree at the University of Connecticut.

After the Baptism & Chrismation were completed, a festive reception was hosted by the Holy Trinity community, in honor of John Michael. It was also an opportunity for each of us at Holy Trinity to personally thank Katrina and Tim for their on-going efforts to develop our church community.

Each of the Godparents received gift baskets from the Fetzko family that included sparkling white wine from Francis Ford Coppola's winery. Tim told the story of how he and Katrina vacationed in Napa, California before they were married.  During their trip they visited the Coppola winery and it's become a special place for them.  While touring the vineyard they learned that Francis named the wine for his daughter - Sophia.  When they were married, they shared glasses of "Sophia" with their guests during the toast.

To further commemorate the day, the Fetzko family also presented Fr Marc a generous donation to be put toward the Holy Trinity chalice restoration.

Over the years, many have complimented us on our web site, along with the outstanding pictures which routinely appear. Continued thanks to Tim, who is our church’s webmaster and photographer.

A special note of thanks to Mr Timothy Paproski, a freshman at the University of Connecticut and active member of the Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) member, for directing the Holy Trinity choir on this day of great joy in our parish. Under the capable direction of Mr Paproski, the Holy Trinity sang prayerfully and with great enthusiasm.
