Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

The Holy Trinity community recognized Mr & Mrs Jon (Merci) Matcheson on the occasion of the 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, July 7, 2019. They were united in Holy Matrimony on July 7, 1979.

Jon & Merci are very strong contributors to Holy Trinity on so many different levels. It is very difficult to quantify the work they do. They labor quietly, and without any fanfare or need to be recognized for what they do. They serve as an icon of how work she be performed in the church: to the glory of God, offered in joy, and rooted in deep humility.

Together, and this is how they would prefer to seen, they work at the Soup Kitchen, read the Epistle, sing in the choir, hold the Communion Cloth, and clean the church. And then, there is what they do individually. All is accomplished in a spirit of prayer and piety.

Special prayers from the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony were offered on Sunday for Jon & Merci, and they were also blessed with the church's wedding crowns, with the exclamation: "O Lord, our God, crown them with glory and honor."

Jon & Merci were also presented with boutonnieres upon entering the church on July 7. They then go to the work at hand, a day of service to their Holy Trinity Church community.

Congratulations and Many Years to Merci & Jon Matcheson.
