Surrounded by family, friends, and of course, the Holy Trinity Church community, Thomas Arkady Lesperance entered into the “newness of life” (Romans 6:4) during a Baptismal Divine Liturgy on Sunday, August 8, 2021.

“Thomas will no longer walk in darkness because baptism is illumination,” Holy Trinity host pastor, V. Rev. Marc Vranes, said in his homily. “Thomas will no longer live in darkness because he will be illumined by Christ who is the light of the world.”

There was great joy in our small parish as Thomas was surrounded by approximately 55 people who came to witness his reception into the Orthodox Church through the grace-giving sacraments of Baptism, Chrismation, and Holy Communion. Five singers sang the responses, and it was indeed a beautiful day for all in attendance.

In his homily, Father Marc encouraged those present to remain vigilant in their response to Thomas. “As his church and biological family, Thomas will be able to encounter Christ every time he is with us,” Father Marc noted. “The image of Christ that we present to Thomas must not be lost on us, not now or forever.

“If he does not find God the image of the Savior in us, then where will he find it?”

Thomas was joined by his parents, Brian & Danielle Lesperance, and sister, Alice, age 3. Serving with Father Marc, were Father Gregory Rubis and also Deacon Gregory Curran.

Godparents were Gabriella Rubis and Nicholas Andrzejewski, Danielle’s niece and brother, respectively. Also present were Thomas’ paternal grandparents, Cheryl & William Lesperance, along with Dr Chet & Kathy Andrzejewski, the maternal grandparents, who were celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary (August 7, 1976). Sub-deacons Michael Andrzejewski, Mark Curran, and Nicholas Medynski were also in attendance and in the altar.

A festive gala luncheon was held after Divine Liturgy in the Parish Hall.
