Wonders of the Small Church

The small church has incredible importance and value, although it may not carry the pomp of churches in Europe and elsewhere. I have one particular small church in mind: ours.

Motherhood and apple pie are traditional symbols of wholesome American values, and this Sunday the focus was on motherhood.   Mother’s Day was celebrated at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church with great joy by parishioners and friends.

First, Divine Liturgy was served by Fr Nicholas Timpko in Fr Marc’s absence. Fr Nicholas’s wife Anastasia, his grandson Kevin, and other members of their family gave additional grace to the morning.

Then the mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, and their friends were treated by the fathers, grandfathers, brothers and sons of the parish to a superb brunch. Organized with great skill by Webmaster Tim Fetzko, who gave close attention to every detail, each person could select from a menu that offered French toast, bagels, quiche, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, yoghurt, fruit salad, coffee, and mimosa (real or faux).

Expertly prepared food was brought to tables strewn with flowers and set with china and silver by men who graciously served (and later cheerfully cleaned up and swept out), thereby giving the ladies a true holiday from the kitchen. The event was a heart-warming expression of the familial atmosphere many experience at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church.
